Dear Friend of OOTB:

This is the Day That the Lord Has Made,

A place where wind, water, mankind, and our God meet is a sacred place, it’s Holy Ground. It’s a place that can propel us forward; a place we want to return to time and time again. It’s a place that many of our summer staff say remains the same, yet prepares them for the future, that it is safe harbor, that it is family, it’s home. It’s the only place where 20% of our summer campers who are unchurched experience God.

A camper’s mother writes “Never having been an avid church goer, as a single parent I set out to find a safe and nurturing place for my child’s first real separation from me. What a surprise to find Camp Occohannock. My daughter went for one week and stayed for all eight. On the weekends, amid piles of dirty laundry, and excited chatter about her new experiences, we repacked for next week, and the return to her home away from home. Upon arriving back at OOTB, I gazed upward at the simple wooden cross spreading above the children like loving arms, to give thanks. I never looked back. God has touched my child’s life and I DO BELIEVE.”

Occohannock on the Bay became this Holy Ground in 1958. 50 acres of woodlands, open spaces, and waterfront purchased by the Eastern Shore District United Methodist Church, along the Occohannock and Tawes creeks. The first structure, the picnic shelter, was built in 1960, the rest is history. OOTB like most of the 450 United Methodist camps in the U.S., has become an ageing facility, requiring refurbishing, and improvements.

Help us to continue this Eastern Shore Tradition. The ministries of OOTB touch the lives of the young and not so young alike, through Summer Camp, Emmaus, Chrysalis, Mission Teams, Church and Youth Retreats, Clergy Training, Faith Community Nurse Retreats, Weddings, Family Reunions, Scouting and more. Help us continue and flourish not only for today, but for future generations.

Can we count on you? Please prayerfully consider making a difference in the lives of those that encounter this Holy Ground and the presents of our God. After prayerful thought, mail your donation in the enclosed envelope before December 31, 2006, for a current year deduction. Your generous gift is most important!

Let Us Rejoice and Be Glad in it!
