From Campers
I think that camp OOTB is a place to find love in God. I love
OOTB because its fun, you get to meet new people and your counselors
are like family. The things I like about camp is they have canoeing,
fishing, archery, camping, cookouts, and more. Camp is my favorite
place to be in the summer.
Camp is another home for me and I can’t wait to go back
every year. I always pack my stuff four months a head of time.
Every time we turn onto Camp Lane, my heart starts to pump really
fast with joy and excitement. It’s a wonderful place to
be in your life.
From Parents
Never having been much of a Church goer, as a single parent,
I set out to find a safe and nurturing place for my child’s
first real separation from me. What a surprise to find Camp OOTB.
My daughter is able to share her love of nature and the sea
with all her new found friends. She went for one week and
stayed for
all eight. I did see her on weekends amid piles of dirty laundry
and excited chatter about all her new experiences. Re-packed
and rested, off we went each Sunday to her new home away from
home.
I gazed upward at the simple wooden cross spreading above the
children like loving arms, to give thanks. I never looked
back, God has touched my child’s life and I DO BELIEVE.
From
Summer Staff
I return each summer because OOTB is home, it’s family,
it’s safe, it’s sanctuary.
I’m returning for my second summer because I promised
several campers that I would.
I couldn’t picture my life without camp and I love the
kids.
I love children and sharing my faith with them.
Camp to me is a world of God. You don't need to see anything
just to know
that Camp Occohannock is filled with love and care from the people
that come and go. It is almost in a way a dream
land; once you step onto the
beautiful land that God has greatfully created the real world
fades out as
a small piece of Heaven is shown to you. You seem to forget all
about your
worries and your troubles. You can just take a deep breath and
let
everything go without having to impress someone or worry about
what
someone is going to think about you. Being able to see what God
really
meant when he said "It was good" when he made the earth
he most definitely
had something speacial in mind when he blessed the shore of VA
with CampOccohannock. With each person that comes to this place
weighed down with
burndens, they leave empty footprints behind ready to take new
steps in a
new life in this broken world.~

I don’t know what I would do without Camp Occohannock.
I love seeing the children that come to camp and watching them
learn. I miss the campers that I had last summer and really hope
that they come back this year. ~

Camp is a place where I return every summer and know that I
will be accepted, no matter who is there or how much others have
changed. It’s a place that is welcoming and life-changing.
Each summer when I leave with bags packed, a tan, and tears streaming
down my face, I know that I’m leaving with a new sense
of who I am in this world. ~
